brine channels

I made ice today (believe it or not!) and when I pulled the ice out of the cylindrical container, I saw these really cool brine channels. When sea ice freezes, the water molecules form ice and the salts are excluded and form high salinity brine that slowly drains out of the ice through channels.

Tonight is Sir David Attenborough's talk!!!

  1. Usually I make ice by pouring water in the plastic tray and sticking it in the freezer....
