Christchurch, NZ

We made it to Christchurch, although our bags did not. We've been promised that they will arrive this afternoon, and we got some really nice quantas attire to wear in the meantime.

Yesterday we went downtown and walked around Christchurch and sampled some New Zealand beer. Apparently Tui beer in New Zealand is NOT the same as a similarly named (but differently spelled) beer in Australia, and suggesting that it might be is NOT acceptable. Probably less so if you're in a large group of clearly American tourists with cameras. The New Zealand Tui beer is excellent. We also took some pictures of a statue of Scott, who I'm sure we will hear a lot more about.

  1. Oh yeah, you're gonna get in serious trouble with that Toohey's / Tui thing. Also, there's a cathedral in Christchurch (whodathunkit with a name like that, eh?) where you can get up in the tower and see most of the whole city, and I would very much recommend it if you've got time (and it sounds like you do, unless you're planning to wear those sweet PJs to Antarctica).

  2. This blog is awesome! I can't believe you are in Antarctica and that you met SDA. It's snowing again in DC and I'm just going to dream that everything is white because I'm actually in Antartica with you. By the way my car is named Toohey. Never to be confused with Tui! Have fun!! --Hag
