trip to pegasus

We went out to Pegasus runway today on ski-doos and had an awesome time. We were looking for pteropods in the holes that had been drilled out there and didn't find any, but did see some charismatic megafauna, which even I appreciated. Dennis was talking to the seal just like how he talks to his dog... perhaps he's been in Antarctica for too long?

We also stopped to check out the emperor penguins, which are still hanging out near the road to Pegasus and I think probably collectively (14 people) took about 300 pictures. These are some well photographed penguins.

It was a really clear day so we got good views of Mt. Erebus. In this picture, you can see the steam coming off, which was pretty cool. I took lots of pictures on the way out. The ski-doo that Jim and I were riding broke down half-way there, which I guess is a common thing, so we ended up piling onto sleds being hauled by the other ski-doos.

This picture is of Jim on the cart/sled behind Idan and Annaliese. I got to drive on the way back, which was really fun. I think Dennis took pictures.

  1. ps I think those penguins huddled behind you are discussing why you take so many photographs of them, and what they plan to do about it...
